We've been here for 9 years, using this cheap corner shower unit. It's developped a small leak and finally took the jump and getting it replaced.
The bathroom is 10X11, a 96" 2 sinks vanity (not replacing it), a jetted corner tub with a window above it on the back wall and a large lingerie. There is 63" between tub and side wall where the new shower is getting installed.
The first idea was to have a custom built corner unit to join the tub and the vanity. The cost of that reno was about $16000 for the shower alone and some paint as well as keeping the plumbing on the exterior wall like it is now which I want to avoid for obvious reasons. We decided on an alcove shower from the tub with a 85" wall between tub and shower to accomodate the plumbing fixture (for easy access if ever needed), the space above will allow some light to come in from the window and better circulation as well.
We wanted custom marble for easy cleaning and no grout but after investigating Shlutter/Kerdi products, we feel better now about tiles. The renovations started yesterday, gutting the shower, lifting the floor to find no water damage. The leak that was there was minimal, did not cause damage other than a little yellow stain on the 1st floor laudry room.
We chose Delta lahara handheld shower on travel bar, delta Lahara monitor 17 valve and Aquabrass 8" rain shower. There will be a seat and a grab bar as well. The doors will be Fleurco Novara sliding door.
