Miele fully integrated dishwasher question - handles

On the Miele's where you can do a custom front, I see an option for a stainless front without a handle.

Since their handles don't seem to have the style I want, can you put a custom handle on these? If so, what size does it accept and are there any good sites to buy handles from I should look at?

Referring to a model like this:

Funny enough, the image on that page with the dishwasher open shows the handle I want, but Miele doesn't seem to carry it.

So the handles attach to the panel vs. the dishwasher itself?

I didn't realize that you can get a stainless from with out handle borings from Miele. Are you sure about this???

I think that picture shows a stainless panel from a cabinet maker, Miele makes cabinets ( well did until it sold the division recently) in Europe and that is the most likely source.

You'd be best going this rout too. That handle has become pretty ubiquitous in modern cabinet world the last decade.

This is what Miele had to say:

You may purchase the accessory SS panel with no handle, part #
21995337D and then use your own handle to match your surrounding cabinetry. This particular SS panel, is designed for use with a 4" toe kick, and will need to have guide holes drilled in the panel to align with your handle.

I'm not sure I understand. Where is the handle screwed into? Are there holes already in place on the dishwasher for an 18" handle?

Yes the "normal" ones are already predrilled to fit Miele handles which all have the same drilling distance dimensions. (DW's anyway)

Handle bolts screw in from the back side of the panel like they would on any other drawer front or door.

Integrated DW's especially miele's require a door panel to function. You typically order a 24" base cabinet door and attach it to miele's bracket which in turn attaches to the DW door body.

You can attach a knob , a short handle , a long handle, a concealed handel whatever you want - just like you do on your regular cabinet doors and drawers.

What's throwing you is the stainless steel. ITS A STAINLESS STEEL DOOR, not a stainless steel dishwasher. If you change you mind next year and want a gloss red lacquer door instead of the stainless you won't need a new dishwasher or any additional parts. Just remove one door and add the handle the replace the panel.

Why don't you go to miele's website and look at the installation instructions for that model? I'm sure once you see that you won't be as confused.

I think I want a stainless Miele dishwasher with hidden controls, but I don't like any of their handle options.

In my quest to decide on visible vs. hidden control dishwasher (see my earlier post), I discovered the option mentioned in this post: Order a Miele fully-integrated unfinished dishwasher along with the optional "blank" (no holes, no handle) stainless front panel, no-holes (Miele part number 21995337D). However, I've looked at the cartoon installation instructions referred to above, and I can't quite figure out how this works with a stainless panel. The instructions seem to show how it works with a wood panel, but I'm unclear on how my own handle would attach to a stainless panel. I realize you can drill through the stainless (well, I can't, but my installer can), but I'm not sure what a handle would "grab onto" in a stainless panel, because I'm not sure what the stainless panel looks like out of the box.

If you order part number 21995337D, do you get 3/4-inch thick stainless steel? The install instructions say the panel has to be 3/4 inches thick, but if it were pure metal that would weigh 100 pounds! Or is it a thin sheet of stainless over some type of wood? My problem is that I can't figure out if I need some special type of handle with special dimensions, or if this stainless, no-holes, no-handle panel from Miele is engineered in some way to grab onto any handle that can be screwed in from behind.

Has anyone ever seen this panel, and can you explain how it works to install a custom handle onto it?

Did you ever get an answer about this….Miele stainless panel and installing your own handles??? We are considering installing the wolf/sub zero handle on our Miele DW so the handles are consistent if that’s possible.

I have a SubZero handle on my MIele Optima, but it is on a wood panel. I assume that the stainless panel is stiff enough to mount a handle to it and have the handle open the door without undue stress on the stainless steel. 300 SS in any reasonable gauge for this purpose is fairly stiff.
