ARG!!! Vent....

We're redoing our guest bath and it's my first undertaking of remodeling anything. We built our last house and I had a blast! Then we relo'd and this is NOT our forever home - it's our "until the next relo home".

But, back to the guest bath. First, it was an eyesore and second we are using it as a 'resume' for the fellow we were thinking about having work on our master and kitchen.

The GC tells me he'll be here between 8-9. My son goes to pre-k and I rearrange our mornings so as not to be caught in my jammies and able to get my son to school on time. The GC was here an hour late Mon, and hour and a half late Tuesday, was a no show (after I called) on Wed, and today (again after I called) supposed to be here at 12. No make that 1. Oops, how about 2? Three o'clock the doorbell rings.

Well he finishes grouting the floor -fine. Then he is going to install our laminate countertop. Well, I'm walking by and did a double take. We have a seam at the edge - it's not a post formed edge as it is a budget redo. The seam is ATROCIOUS! First it's wide and showing black on Wilsonart Crystal Fusion. Second - it's not even close to being straight - in some parts (double vanity) its about 3/8" wide! The side was fine, but the entire front was a large wavy black line.

The GC agrees that it looks like cr@# - he will personally refabricate it himself and promises that it will look perfect. Grrrrr.... It'll be done maybe Wednesday next week- he'll call. This whole thing was supposed to be done this past Tuesday.

They asked for 3/4 the fee up front even though the only material they were providing is the countertop - I bought everything else and it is in my garage. Dummy me - paid it. This is the capper - as he is carrying the POS countertop out, he asks for a check for the balance saying it is due upon delivery. I about lost it. I asked how exactly he quantifies 'delivery' when he is walking out with my countertop - essentially, the only thing he is 'delivering'.

Needless to say, he left empty handed and isn't going to get the big ticket renovations in our house. ARG! Is this what I have to look forward to with the rest of the remodeling. I will lose my mind...
