Wall oven venting

I had Thermador double wall ovens and because they vented into the kitchen I thought that the builder had neglected to vent them out. Broiling was particularly bad since the oven was across the room form the hood. Now I am being told that wall ovens are not vented out and that they all vent into the room. Is this true?

yep. Doesn't seem right, does it?

No it doesn't. The suggestion was to put the oven under the cooktop! Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a wall oven? thanks

With my small kitchen and a desire for an induction cooktop, putting a wall oven under the cooktop was (will be?) the solution. I got the Fisher & Paykel single oven, which has an active venting system that is supposed to eliminate odors. I suspect that some other ovens have a similar feature. The kitchen installation is still in the works so I can't report whether the odor elimination works or not.

Technically, the oven vents at the rear within the cabinet and the cooktop vents at the rear above the countertop. Theoretically, if I turn on the cooktop (e.g., simmer water) and the hood above then I guess that I am venting the oven outside in an indirect manner.

Oversight. Even though it is electric, broiling is supposed to be done with the door closed so that odors are eliminated. Again, I can't speak from experience.

It could be rigged up if you're doing a whole new kitchen. My 1958 kitchen has a roof mounted blower, and ducts that lead to two different vent points...one over the cooktop and one over the wall oven. I never thought of that but if I ever have to build a kitchen that's going in for sure! I believe the round duct comes down and connects to a wide flatter duct with a wide rectangular opening just above my oven. It has a little stainless "hood" that slides onto little brackets and captures the air rising out of the oven door, and carries it right up and out!

Now if only someone could help me pick a new 24" oven to replace my 1958 oven :-( hint hint...see my "desperately seeking oven 24 inches" thread!!

Frigidaire, Amana, and even GE make 24" ovens - what they used to call "apartment-size" ovens. Check out this link and hopefully you can go to the various websites or maybe find some reviews. Sorry I can't be of more help - but there are more than I would have thought of these 24-inchers. A little research should help.

dba: I would want to know if that oven is 'venting' inside the cabinet under the induction cooktop whether the top can handle the heat. You might need some extra vents somewhere.

Venting from the front is one reason I wouldn't put a wall oven under a cooktop. I don't want that heat hitting me in the knees.

Wall oven venting is usually accomplished via the front of the oven. The general idea is that all cooking is done with the oven doors closed and the fumes and smoke are contained within the oven. However, having a wall oven, I can tell you that this is not always the case. Especially, if the food burns ar is being slow cooked. With that said, we have installed hundreds of kitchens with wall ovens in them and we have yet to have a complaint about venting.
We did have one customer that was concerned about it so we installed a home venting unit. These types of units have a central blower, a single external exhaust, and multiple inputs. One of those inputs we placed over the wall oven.
It is a nice solution but does require extra installation time and cost.

We recently replaced our old (from the 80's) Whirlpool wall oven with a Kenmore. I was shocked to feel hot air blowing into the room through the vent during and after cooking. Our old oven never did that. How can that be? I saw the cabinet as the new oven was being installed and I saw no venting apparatus.
