I saw this one on Houzz. The builder says it's custom so there's hope!

Why not just go up until the arch begins? It seems like it would be high enough to do the job.

If you go to a custom shower door company, they should be able to build a door for you. Maybe you can have two fixed side panels that are 48" high and a door in the middle that is higher.

The configuration of the door might not be as much of a problem as the roundness of the tub where the door will sit. If it's too rounded you might have a problem getting the door to sit properly.

Price a standard one first to obtain sticker shock data.

You have nothing to lose if you go to a local glass shop and see what they suggest and how much it will cost. There might be an easy solution, and not really that expensive depending on the kind of glass you chose.. or if they tell you you'll need a second mortgage, at least you know your kids will be able to go to college as long as you keep using a shower curtain. That would make the whole decision easier.

Numbersjunkie- I agree that going up until the arch begins would be great, but I haven't been able to find any doors that are short enough to fit.

Check where the door would actually sit. It looks from your picture that the door would sit inside the arch. As jerzeegirl said, you could do fixed panels on either side with a door in the center. The tops of the side panels could be taller if they do line up inside the arch. Or you could also do a sliding door (framed or frameless). A standard sliding door might fit in there just fine.

I tried to show where the door would go. It looks a little wonky, but the line goes from the top of the tub wall along a grout line and ends up inside the arch.

I do have to say, I love that you are keeping the arch and the tile. It is such a cute bathroom!
