Should I buy this Dacor wall oven?

My new kitchen plan calls for a 27" wall oven (and that really is the largest oven I can do). We will also have a gas range, so additional oven space is availabe for large gatherings. The wall oven will be my "daily" oven.

I have found an overstock 27" Dacor Renaissance Millenium oven (model# MORS127S) that I can get for about the same price as the Electrolux oven I've been looking at. Should I buy it or am I asking for trouble?

I know Dacor has had some issues in the past, but don't really see much about them these days. I would love to know about others recent experiences with Dacor. I live in the Atlanta area so I would be interested in any service issues for this area also.

Thanks.

    Gary/Dodge,

Thanks, I have pretty much looked at everything regarding wall ovens, Dacor, Electrolux (I know your favorite), etc. but it looks like information on Dacor in particular is based on older appliances and I would really like to hear from recent purchasers.

I had been leaning toward the Electolux, but prefer the looks of some other ovens. (I did see the recent thread on the 27" Electrolux.) I love the look of the Viking ovens, but can't justify $3000.00. $2000.00 is about the most I want to go.

I am finding ovens the hardest appliance to research because there are so many to choose from and I think reviews are then distributed accordingly, no one except the high end vendors actually has working ovens on their showroom floor, I have only seen three 27" ovens (Bosch, Viking and Dacor) and manufacturers don't always list interior dimensions, Euro models tend to come only in 24" and 30"...blah blah blah!

It is really very frustrating, but I know I've come to the right place.

    You're Welcome!

Good luck with your decision, as you probably noticed, Elux did assure Kelsold that the problem has been corrected with the Elux---strange we haven't seen many of those problems posted here? (Hopefully for our users, We won't)!----Course this doesn't help the way the Elux looks to you.

We wanted a modern (Almost a space-age look) to our kitchen and the Elux as well as the Miele semi-panelled DW fit that bill very well. Our kitchen is "One Big Curve", even the cabinets are curved and so was the fancy cooktop I bought, but Alas that was before my "GW days" and I "BLEW IT" with that cooktop and its associated pop-up vent.

Hopefully we can save you some of the mistakes I made.

We realize that people may want a "Different look" for their kitchen--than what we were looking for. We hope you are able to meet both Goals--(Form & Function).

    Gary/Dodge,

You certainly hit the nail on the head--I want form and function. One of the goals of my renovation is to add some looks while keeping good function and workflow. Ultimately, I'm a practical sort, but why spend all this money for something that doesn't satisfy the visual senses or work properly?

You've been a good advocate for Electrolux and one of the reasons I'm considering it, even though I would prefer a different look. It was interesting that the issue stated on the other post was specific to the 27" E-lux oven. Maybe we haven't heard about it on this board because the majority of posters have 30" ovens.

It seems most of the ovens I like look-wise only come in a 30" size. The 27s closest to my look desires are the Thermador, Dacor, and Kitchenaid (although I don't care for the KA handle or reliability issues). Thermador is a little out of my price range and also appears to have reliability issues.

I would love it if appliance companies made their lines more modular--the same unit with a choice of doors (one modern, one traditional). Wall ovens are so visible that I think they can make or break a look. I have a friend with a lovely, traditional, kitchen in an older home, but the Fisher-Paykel oven just ruins it for me everytime with its looks.

I'm sure I will make my share of mistakes during this remodel--I'm just hoping to avoid costly ones.

we have the 30" double oven version of what you're considering, bought in july of 2007. the pros far outweigh the cons.
Pros-the convection feature is fantastic, we use it for everything from turkeys (have done 2 13lb at once) to fruit crisps to vegetables. conventional use has also been very good for the wide variety of things (including baking bread) we use it for. In the beginning it will take some tweaking and trial/error to find out which rack height is best for what purpose, but once you're set, all is well.
Cons-the numbers on the control panel have been going out from right to left, which gives me concern for the rest of the electronics in that panel,we keep our fingers crossed on that one. The first part of the display went out about 3 weeks after the warranty (not extended) expired, we contacted Dacor who basically told us, sorry, your warranty is over. That was very disappointing.
So for the oven use, I would recommend it very strongly, but there is that other minor issue...

I would make sure how your warranty will be serviced and buy the longest extended warranty that you can. I think this is probably true for any electronic oven. If you have to replace the board for any reason, it is very expensive. Dacor has also recently changed the direction of their convection fan to run backwards because food was browning too quickly blowing directly I guess, so you might want to make sure this one is like that.

I too would be interested to know how their ovens function these days. also would like to know how their customer service is.

    Thanks wekick.

I spoke with someone at every service company in my area that works with Dacor. All said that they get very few calls on this particular oven. Two separate reps said they did have issues several years ago with electonic boards but have not seen these problems with the newer Dacor ovens.

On the fan issue, I went to the Dacor showroom yesterday and the manager said that the Dacor fans have always taken warm air from the oven and recirculated it back into the oven cavity. He was confused when I suggested that there might have been a change in the way the fan worked. When did this change occur?

Having said all this I still think I will buy the Dacor extended warranty (and I probably would for ANY oven) because the repairs to the electronics can be costly.

Dacor oven self cleaning will wreck the electronics…..terrible make
