No. It is a charcoal filter to help reduce smells. It is not an air freshener. Poor translations from Japanese to English.

I have writen about my washlet many times and about how much I am satisfied with it. Mine too is from the S300 series and have it in use now for about 7 months. The worst and only problem I have had was an odor problem that eminated from the unit itself. For about the first month when the blow dry fan came on I got a horrrible chemical smell. Sometimes the smell was far worse than what came from the bathroom. I contacted Toto and was told it was the new plastic reacting with the heat from the dryer. Sure enough after a month it went away. Whatever the charcoal filter is suppose to do it doesnt eminate and peasant smell but I do think that it does seem reduce the normal unpleasant bathroom odors.

I don't think it's a charcoal filter. If so, I don't know how you would replace it and haven't read anything about replacing it. I *think* it's some kind of ion technology. There is an intake filter to remove and brush clean occasionally but nothing to replace. The one thing I can tell you is that it works and works WELL! I didn't have the problem faucetman had.

I remember seeing this a while back but have not replaced mine in almost 3 years of use! It may be an Ion technology but I definitely remember it being carbon based when I bought mine.

This question got the best of me so I broke down and called Toto. It is a charcoal based (my apologies homepro01) "catalytic converter". It "could" need replaced in 4-5 years. It is not something the homeowner can do. Has to be sent to Toto :o

Does anyone know how to turn the deodorizer off? I don't want it on every time I simply pee. The noise is annoying in the middle of the night.

Yes, I had mine turned off for a while after I first started using it because it was emanating a smell/fume that actually stung my skin on my tender parts! It felt like someone was blowing menthol over my skin. After a month or so, I turned it back on and it is fine, now.

TO TURN OFF THE DEODORIZER ON THE WASHLET:

From page 44 of the manual for the 300e and the 350e and TCF4732A and TCF4731A

Go to the back of the remote, Press MENU

Use the up and down arrows to select "Auto Functions" and then press ENTER

Use the up and down arrows to select "Cleaning" and then press ENTER

Use the up and down arrows to select "DEODORIZER" and

Use the left and right arrows to select "On" or "Off" and press ENTER

Press MENU to return to the regular screen

Since I have the instruction booklet open, I notice that the Deodorizer Filter rinsing "(Perform monthly)" has written underneath it "<if you notice odors>". Now, does that mean you only need to do the monthly filter rinse if you notice odors? Or does it mean to do it additionally when you notice odors, plus monthly? BTW, we are to brush the filter with a toothbrush (or something similar) under running water to clean it. Dry off water before returning it, and you should hear a "click" when it is in place. And the unit should be unplugged to do this filter removal and return.

There are instructions for extending the wand, too if you notice dirt on the wand. Again, it sends you to the "Cleaning" Auto Function and you choose "Wand Cleaning Mode", switch to "On" and ENTER, then it extends and water sprays out for cleaning and you can wipe the wand with a soft, wet cloth. Don't use TP, pull, or press the wand. When done, press ENTER again on the remote and the wand will retract.

The new S500e and S550e Toto washlets have a removable filter. See page 33 on the owner's manual.

Yes - I also have the S500e Toto Washlet. The deoderizing filter is removable to clean and reinsert once a month. It doesn't need replacing and it operates on o2 (oxygen) technology.

I have both the s350e and s550e. Earlier comments are correct that you can remove and clean the filter. I clean mine monthly but do not forget to replace the carbon cartridge. Here’s the part #: Toto THU9476 Deodorizer Cartridge . You can buy it from Lowe’s for about $31 or www.plumbersstock.com for about $27 after shipping. This, along with cleaning the wand housing, will help eliminate the smell that some have reported that develops over time.

Where does the catalyst deodorizer fit on the washlet and do I need to remove seat to find it ?

My S300e replacement cartridge came with these directions (see pic attached) and the seat did not need to be removed. Check your model to ensure it applies. Hope this helps.

I have S350e TCF4913U. It’s been in use for about five years. We are noticing an unpleasant odor. It no longer eliminates the unfavorable bathroom odors. The manual identifies the location of deodorizer outlet but there is no mention of how to change carbon cartridge. Do you believe the Toto THU9476 Washlet S300/350E Deodorizer Catalyst Small will work for my model? I can easily remove and reinsert the existing cartridge.

I don't know if it will fit the 350E, but a comment above indicates it fit her model (see Cynthia Pham above). When I called Toto, it was easy to get someone on the line and get help - maybe go to their webiste and geth the cusromer service number to double-check. Wish you luck - I know that odor is horrid and replacing that filter fixed it for me. In fact, I've not had it since and that was five years ago.

I have a model C100 that smells AWFUL when the fan runs. Like old nasty manure. The unit is several years old. I clean the intake filter. But the stank is awful. I can’t find how to disable the fan or if there is an internal filter or charcoal or whatever.

The c100 has 2 filters really. Both on the right side of the unit. Closer to the front is the flat plastic thing, you pull that out and clean it monthly. Closer to the back next to it a cover. The charcoal filter is in there, it's replaceable as needed

If you have the toto washlet s550e and it starts to smell bad, buy the toto part THU9476. It is a charcoal deodorizer catalyst that sits behind a louvered panel in the back right of the washlet. Very easy to replace. Mine needed to be replaced after 5 years. Took me a long time to figure that out, but definitely works. The plastic filter on the right side of the toto also needs to be cleaned and put back in periodically.

I just want to turn off the fan. Don't care about having the deodorizer feature and I have a washlet without a .remote because who needs to operate your toilet remotely? I JUST WANT TO TURN IT OFF because it makes way too much noise. Any suggestions of how to do that? Without a remote?

Make sure not to let any chemicals get into the unit.  Even vapor of chemicals can damage the unit.. and make me cry tears. And grown men rarely cry soooo

It's been 3 years since our Toto toilet and washlet were installed. We just found the "deoderizing catalyst" part, rinsed it, and then wasn't sure that was a good thing. I searched and found this stream of comments. I can say, in 2024, that the "catalyst" is still not mentioned in any documentation. They only mention cleaning the little plastic filter that keeps dust out of the workings. But these posts have been a great help. I just purchased a pack of 2 filters from Amazon and will add "change the filter" to my calender a year from now.
