Is my bread machine broken?

For the past year or so, I have been using my older bread machine for the rise only and then baking in the oven.

Yesterday, I put in a store bought mix to rise and bake in the bread machine. When it started to bake, a lot of steam came up through the mesh vent and I smelled burning. So, I took the bread out and finished baking in the oven.

Any thoughts on what might be wrong with it?
