Please help with retrofitting a cooktop

I am really hopeful that someone here can help me with my scary question.

I have granite in my kitchen. I currently have a 36" GE gas cooktop. I don't know the exact cutout under it. The specs called for 19 1/8 x 33 7/8. I'd like to put in an INDUCTION cooktop. It seems that the induction cooktops require a little larger opening, like an inch on each side.

Does the counter have to be ripped out and taken to the shop to make the holes bigger or can a granite person come to the house and make the hole larger on site? Do I have to look for an Induction that calls for the exact same measurements as my gas cooktop?

How close to the specs do the granite people cut the counters under the cooktops? I cannot get a good look at mine without shutting off the gas pipe, and right now I don't want to do it until I get a satisfying answer, first.

I may just leave things alone if it's too much work.

I'd like to keep the mess and cost to a minimum.

TIA
