Convert Old House to Barn

We are looking into the feasibility of converting this old house into a barn/garage/storage building. It's about 40 to 50 years old, and is structurally pretty sound. Too many problems to upgrade it to livability, but the roof and roof joists are in good shape, as are the walls (true 2x4 lumber.) I know we'd have to re-support the roof, remove the floor and crawl space foundations, new slab for the floor, but what else? Do you think this is cost efficient versus just tearing it down and starting all over? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Define your functions for a barn. The needs of livestock and farm equipment can be quite different.

If it's a no rush DIY project - I would do it. Just from that photo alone, it shows a lot of potential to be a great barn and you would likely have some nice materials left over for more projects, if you take your time in deconstructing.

If you plan to open the entire area under the roof, you will have to create new foundations and a new supporting structural system.

Have you compared the demolition and new construction costs with demolishing the building and building a new barn?

Is the zoning for your property such that you can build a barn?
