Hood install question - time sensitive

Hello all,

I have a question that is somewhat time sensitive as the contractors will be installing my range hood today.

The hood they will be installing is a Wolf Pro Hood liner that will be connected to a 10" duct that runs across the back of my garage and attaches to a 1200 cfm blower on the far side of my garage.

The issue is the fact that the liner is designed to have the duct attach to the top of the liner. Due to the location of my range, the only option is to have it attach at the rear of the hood. While the current situation does beg the question of why this wasn't identified earlier (ie before the duct was run, blower installed and cabinet hood installed.) In any case, does anyone see a problem with modifying the hood liner to close the opening in the top and cutting a hole in the back to allow the duct to attach? Everything would be done by a professional welder, so it should be a good quality connection.

While it feels wrong to modify the liner - the more I think about it, the more it feels like it shouldn't make a difference - air will still be pulled across the baffles and out of the hood. Also, it was going to make a 90 degree turn and head out horizontally immediately after leaving the top of the hood anyway, so it shouldn't make much of a difference attaching to the rear of the hood. Should it?

Anyone done this before or have a hood liner that vent s out the back? Anyone think this is a horrible idea?

Thanks!
