Another Induction Question

I have been researching induction cook tops and have read all the recent posts here. I saw a Bosch NIT3065LD at Lowe's and I can't find any information about it other than on the Lowe's site. The others are 500 and 800 series. Could this one be discontinued, an older model or what? If you are using any of the Boschs, would you please share your experience. I'm interested in the Bosch because it is the same size as an electric that it will replace and the cutout is the same.

Another question (and please forgive my ignorance), what does shared power mean?

Thanks for your help. Whistle

Hi, I'm also shopping for induction cooktops, but I don't have knowledge of the Bosch. Is it on sale? Is the price very good?

Shared power refers to whether the electricity is dedicated to each hob or if it can be shared between hobs to boost the power in one or another. If the hobs share power, then you can't theoretically turn them all on the highest settings at the same time. I like the idea of not sharing power between hobs, but really can't think of any meal I've made that would have required all burners on their highest settings all at the same time. So maybe it is not that important, after all.

katrinavhh: Lowe's lists the Bosch 3065 as was $1798, now $1698. That's not much of a sale. Thanks for explaining the shared power. That makes sense, and I don't think I would ever be running all on their highest settings either!

My next question is concerning the size of the burners. Someone mentioned this on the recent "open box" thread. This Bosch had an 11" burner and I don't have any pots that size. Will a smaller pan (8") work on the 11"?

Anyone out there using a Bosch induction cook top?

whistle - I was confused about the "3065" at Lowe's - and really still don't understand it. I purchased the NIT8053UC last Spring. When it was installed last month, it cracked. I have been able to use two of the burners while waiting for a new one. Lowe's is replacing it with the NIT5065UC because apparently they can't get the NIT8053UC (which I agree - looks just like whatever this 3065 thing is). In any event, they should be installing the NIT5065UC this week. I think I will like it better than the one I've been using. I think it will be far more convenient to use the controls on the new one. BUT - watch the dimensions. I think we're going to find out that the dimensions are a little bit different on the new one. I know it is deeper.

I may not be the person to answer this because I don't have very much experience with the cooktop but I believe the answer is yes - you can put a smaller pan on the larger burner.

From my limited experience, I LOVE induction. Admittedly I burned water the other night but other than that . . . it is very precise cooking. I'm really enjoying experimenting with it.

Oh - other than the redesigned controls on the new one - I think the other main thing you get is countdown timers for each burner which I believe means you can set it to turn itself off after a certain amount of time.
