Never made it but I hate those darn black walnuts! LOL

Is that what it is made from? I assume so - since they make such a mess on the ground. And are they hard to crack! They taste good though, once in a while, in brownies and such.

Oh woman please tell us about your experience. I've never made it...but have used the black walnuts for fabric staining and such.

I havent made it yet still need to find a old pot large enough, walnut ink is used for antiqueing paper and frabic and also wood and painted iteams, Iam sure there are other uses, hubby would like to try staining with it, if you do a search alot of craft supplies co. will come up, heres a link to how its made if anyone would like to read it. I will let you know how it turns out.

I do know that it's VERY messy and it stains everything. I have heard that from others...that they end up staining more than the wanted to (like their hands).

STAINING
WALNUT STAIN RECIPE:
Let your walnuts start to dry until they get dark spots. You can either boil them whole but I think breaking them into pieces helps the color leech better. Fill an enamel pan to cover your nuts boil for an hour or until you get a nice rich color. I let mine sit over night in the pan. Strain thru cheese cloth or whatever you have a couple of times to get the chunkies out. If you make a large quantity you are going to want to freeze your solution. It will go rancid and get smelly and moldy!

Sweets98 thank you so much for the recipe! yes I knew it would be a very messy job, I have a box full of rubber gloves waiting, still can not find the old pan I thought I saved,not sure if it was enamel or not. I had wondered how to save it,is it worth makeing ? do you like the results of anything you have used it on ? can you mix it with varnish or other types of sealers ? do you know how it compares to store type ? sorry for all the questions,would love to hear of any tips you have, thanks agine
