I wonder if you ran the thread through Elmer's Glue first and then applied it - as that glue dries clear. I'd sure like to see a pic of your finished project, hope you'll post it when you're done.

Thanks for your reply, Sal. Actually my project has taken another direction.

When I looked for the thread, my local stores didn't carry it. Then I decided to use waxed linen. But before I left the craft area of the store, I changed my mind and bought 1/4" satin ribbon. The sales person suggested I use E600 glue as it was for glass and fabric.

I tried the ribbon idea, but didn't like the way the dried, clear glue looked. So I scraped it all off.

Now, I am just painting the glass table top. It seems to be working well so far. I will post a picture of the finished project. Thanks for asking.
