Crafting room

Do you have a separate room you have all your stuff in? I have beads and bits all over. I was in the dining room, but I had to clear that out for a dinner party. So I moved it all upstairs, but no where to work, so I sat on the floor...and got a lovely backache for a week after sitting there for an hour working on something.

Now we're re-doing a large-ish hall closet into a 'studio' and I use that term LIGHTLY! I'll have a counter space, a light of course, shelves and a stool. Maybe a bulletin board and other stuff.

I hope it works, I'm need a place where I can call my own! No kids stuff, or papers or whatever, just my beads and me!

That sounds like a great idea for a "studio". Just make sure you have good lighting and a comfortable chair. I used to have a nice big craft room: sewing machine, three bookcases, work desk and chair, even a fireplace and view of a golf course--then I wanted to retire from working 40+ hours a week, so we downsized to a smaller place. Now I use some cabinets and a countertop in my laundry room for most things, sometimes if doing something big, I use the kitchen table. Don't really mind, so nice to have more time to craft and spend time with my granddaughter (and be on here!) and no more stress! Yeah! Happy crafting.

Oh my, that sound like heaven! fireplace and a view even! Your current set up sounds good too. My laundry room is packed and narrow. No more stress and plenty of time sounds wonderful also.

So far I have an overhead light and an outlet for my Ott light, & bookcases for organziers and a rolling bin thing under the counter for envelopes & packing materials, etc. I'm thinking over the counter space on the wall, a big sheet metal square with those magnetic spice jars with the clear lids for holding bead, so I can see them easily instead of looking through all the bead boxes I have.

My craft room pics are still up on page 3 of the gallery.
What I want to do is get rid of most of my stuff and reclaim the room and just use a big closet. I have to wait for someone to help with a garage sale to do that though.

That's a big space you have Minnie. That's going to be one heckova garage sale too! Good luck!

Minnie, I have seen your craft room pics (and drooled over them) Nice big room, lots of working space, and lots and lots of supplies for working on all kinds of great projects. Sure wish I could come to your garage sale! LOL I am sure you have inspired many other crafters with your projects and encouragement.

I gave a bunch of things away on the forum. I have to get in there and see what is mailable again.
What are you gals interested in??

When my oldest son moved out I got his room and painted it pink. Just in case he had any ideas about moving back. I filled every inch of his closet and dresser and book shelves and added more of my own. There was 'stuff' all over the house, and for the first time, it was all in one room. Now when we look to buy a new house It's--Is the yard big enough for the dogs, is there a place for his pooltable, and is there a room big enough for my craft room...Then we start all the other questions. I remind DH that my craft stuff is a lot cheaper then Prozac and neater the booze.

Craftybrat, I love it! Got to get those priorities straight, right? LOL When our son moved out for the 2nd time--DH said "Do something with that room so he won't want to move into it again!" LOL You are so right, crafting lets us escape from the cares of the world for awhile. Sure helped me get through all my years of working.

Hi Minnie, My main interest is in decorative painting. Right now, I am obsessed with roses. I also like patterns that are not too complicated, especially holiday items. Do you have "clippings" (that's what I call the ones I cut out from magazines and save) or painting books that you no longer want. I would be willing to purchase some of those and pay postage too. I also like patterns that use lace, silk flowers, ribbons, etc. Things that I can decorate using the glue gun. You can email me if you would like.

I have a lot of "clippings" I'll take a look over the next week end.
I'll see what I've got. I don't charge for anything except the postage.

I have a lot of how-to books at DS's waiting for the next garage sale I'll see what is over there if I can.

I have loads of pkgs of mini tree ornaments and mini this' and mini that!!

"cheaper then Prozac and neater the booze"

Now in my case, it's more expesive & messier, LOL

My kids are still too young to even think about converting a room. It must be nice to have room to stretch out. We finished my shoebox 'studio'this weekend, I want to get some other types of organizers, but for the most part it's finished. I'll have to post pics.

Minnie, I'd be interested in buying some of you things, if you have anything you think I could use, I'd want to pay you, or barter something.

I did the same as craftybrat. My son also moved out and I painted the room purple, added flowery stensil, tables, and bookshelves. I love my space. DH thought he was going to get that room/closet for his hunting things. Honey, that's what garages and basement utility rooms are for. What was he thinking? ;)

Hey, Grimmylep, you got that right! LOL We let them put all their "mess" where we don't have to look at it everyday, right? Even with all the other rooms to sit in, used to enjoy just going into that room to sit a spell. It was always neat and like you I decorated it to suit my tastes--called it a "guest room" but mostly it was my sitting and thinking room. Good place to plan my next craft projects.

Nicki-- your new work area sounds nice. I love a cozy work area, it forces you to stay organized. I used to have my computer in a dormer area and I loved it.

I'm lucky, I have the majority of the upper floor of our house as a craft room. I do share it with a guest room but since we rarely have guests, that's no problem!

I have 2 big tables, 2 work chairs, a desk, smaller table, about 5 sewing machines (but I only use 3 of them) a fold-up ironing board, shelves that hold fabric and paint and have a fabric cover to hide it all, an old pie-safe full of bits and pieces, several chests of drawers to stash stuff in, good lamps and work lights, a folding cutting table, a TV, fridge and radio, and a balcony for breaks. And a bathroom, of course! The main trick is keeping it tidy enough so that it looks nice. I can trash it with one simple project!

Mingo, you're lucky. Even a balcony *sigh*

    wait, a fridge?!

I don't like you anymore, HA HA

Nikki, I finally learned how to post pics. Thought you would like to see my craft area. I'm the one using a counter in the laundry room--not much bigger than your closet area--but it's where I get to satisfy my need to create. Luvs
