Hello, I have made wreaths using pinecone "roses" that I dyed
in shades of red using Rit dye.
I just made the dye up in a basin and put the pinecones in
it to soak - rinsed them and laid them out to dry in the open air.

Thank you Jude. Guess you used the Hottest water you were able in the Bowl.? Did you use a straight RED.?I have 4 pkgs of Rit from other dyeing jobs. Mainly 2 plums& 1 denim. Enjoyed your Homepage.

You're welcome.
I used mostly reds in the dying but did a few in
burgandy, rust and tried some yellow (they turned out
an odd but pretty goldish color).

I did use the hottest water possible and let the pine cones
remain in the water till it was totally cool.
Be sure to wear rubber gloves - I forgot on one batch!
Duh....HA!HA!HA!

You can also bleach them which makes them a very nice light coloured wood. I left mine in the bleach for a coupleof days and then rinsed well and dried them.

Can you use Kool aid packs to dye pine cones?
