Oh Oddie, you are so creative! What a great use for old coffee cans. Please tell me about rivets. I've never used them. What do they look like and how do you put them in the tin to close the bottom. Wow! You could even make small pockets like this from vegetable cans too. Luvs

Nice! I made small ones years ago but I think I've pitched them over time or something because I don't know where they are anymore.

It's not as "crafty" but I took one of the popcorn tins that looks like a milk can and sprayed it all black. It's in our room as a small stand and inside...all our drag cords so I don't have to hunt them down at Christmas! LOL

I also take other smaller sized tins and spray them a solid color and then paint on them. I like the stacking paper mache boxes used in country decor but the tins are cheaper at the thrift store! :)

luvstocraft, the photo is a popcorn tin, but you can do the same with coffee cans and any other cans as sweet98 posted, rivets are like a metal bolt that will fasten metal and other things together, you need a rivetgun (I think) to use these, there used to fasten down spouts to gutters if that helps any.thanks agine for nice comments, and thank sweet98, I will have to keep a eye out for the boxes, my husband says I will paint anything , even the grandkids!

Oddie, that is beautiful!

A few years back, those were real popular with the GJ guys and gals. I found that the popcorn tins were a softer metal and much eaiser to 'squish' at the bottom with a much neater look. The rivets give a nice finished look, but you can put holes along the bottom with a large nail and wire it shut. I think there may be pics in the Garden Junk forums FAQ's! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your nice comments,I will check out the garden junk forum , didnt know they were posted here before, and thanks for the idea of useing wire. Trudymom I used my electric can opener to cut out the bottom takes some doing to get it in the opener and the last part I have trouble with so I just kept bending ,back and fourth till it poped out, hope this helps

Thank you for posting a photo, because it has been
awhile since they were shown. I did some several
years ago, but always folded the bottoms of the
cans, both coffee and popcorn ones. Some of the
girls were 'sewing' them together at the bottom
with wire, but the pop-rivit idea is a great one. I
think I will try that the next time I do one.
