It's one of the reasons I'm not fond of MS. Martha. I find much of what she does to be crude and too childish for real life situations.
Real crafters wouldn't be caught dead doing some of the stuff the tv folk try and pass off as crafting.

I miss so much what HGTV used to be....I remember when my husband wanted to change cable suppliers...I said I didn't care as long as it offered HGTV....now I seldom watch it.

I loved the decorating shows...but they push all modern stuff now....I have hated the modern look all my life and that feeling still hasn't changed...I still like a warm and inviting look...They have so many shows they could include something for everyone.

And the old craft shows had so many ideas and there were so many of them back then...

I don't like the way the new craft shows zoom quickly in and out on the projects (that aren't worth watching anyway)...it makes me dizzy.

I know what you mean about the new craft shows, there like the rest of the new shows on tv, guess alot of people must like all the dramma, and the quickly in and out like pattico said gives me a headach!

I don't like a lot of the decorating or crafting shows anymore. I remember watching Trading Spaces and other shows ALL of the time but I don't watch that stuff unless I'm desperate now.

My issue is a lot like Pattico's. I HATE modern decorating and that's all the shows tend to focus on. Not everyone likes what is "in" at the moment!

I do like to watch that show "Find and Design" on TLC on Sunday's because they actually go out and find things at flea markets and yard sales. They also added Big Lots to the list so they must be a sponser. I just like that they use old stuff for new purposes. That's what I'm into. When I redecorate a room, I don't want to start from scratch! I like to take things I have and repaint or do something to make them match.

A lot of the craft shows are jewlery, pottery, clay, etc. I don't do that stuff either. I do country crafts, primitive mostly. You can't find that on TV! Once in a while they have awesome houses on Country Style on HGTV but not always. Some of those houses aren't country at all to me.

I don't care for the camera style on the new shows either - jerking around zooming in and out. It about gives you motion sickness to watch.

I really don't like some of the new craft shows on HGTV - they make the crafter look like an idiot.

I really like some of the craft forums on the internet - Prim Mart and Raggedy Scrappin' really have some wonderful people and ideas. This place is picking up too! Yea!!

Okay, I saw something REALLY funny today! I was watching Country Style this summer and apparently they took it off or changed times because that's not what was on HGTV at 11am. I caught a lady taking apart old keyboards and using the keys and the rubber mat in there...gluing keys on to make a sign and then putting the flat marbles and other jewels on the other "missing" keys! Then she took the USB plug from inside the keyboard and made a pendant for a necklace! LOL

I have to agree the shows are too modernized and what they are calling craft shows should be called "cr*p" shows...it's awful.
Country Style has been out of production since I believe 2001 but they show it to fill a gap.

Those shows are made in CALIFORNIA! And the young people that run the networks think that's what all of America wants. Jerky cameras, fast foward shots, etc. The main target audience is 17 to 34 year old people. They think these people have all the money to buy the advertisers' products.
They don't have a CLUE as to what middle America is all about. They were happy to have Carol Duvall retire so they could "teach" the rest of us what crafting is REALLY all about. And that means making something in under 3 minutes. Not taking the time to make something that will become an heirloom.

Now California is well known for it's avacados, oranges and pistachios. Or as we in New England call it... "The land of the fruits and nuts".

In defense of the current crafting shows, you can't please all of the people all of the time. I hate most of the camera work and the editing sucks. I don't watch most of the shows. They are hosted by amatures who don't have a clue about what they are trying to do. One host actually said "Stampy. Stampy. Stampy." while demonstrating how to use a rubber stamp.

I like B Original. Michele is the lady crafting with the keyboard. Now, I won't be using the keyboard parts as she suggested but I do take keyboards apart and create using the pieces. Have you priced the letter keys for crafting? Outrageous prices!

Michele is a good host. She offers suggestions for using other tools to make the projects. She doesn't talk down to you. Look at her hands. She actually uses them to create the projects. She know how to use the tools and materials for the projects that are presented. I won't make all of her projects but most of them do inspire the 'what if' ideas.

Just my opinion.

Christopherh, Please don't slam a whole state just because some TV producers aren't making good craft shows. There are still lots of really good crafters and crafting in California! I do believe the young producers think their shows have to be fast paced and "hip" to appeal to the younger generation of crafters who have little or no patience. Can you tell I live in California? I'm a transplanted midwesterner! LOL Luvstocraft

I agree with Luvs.Not all Californians are "fruits and Nuts".I'm not and neither are my friends and family.We don't like what they are putting on and calling crafts either.I do lots of crafts,but not that junk they show on tv.
There is one gal that comes on,don't know her name.But she makes crafts out of recycled stuff and is usually doing it in her backyard.That one isn't to bad.

Lime Coke, I agree with you about B Origianl, I love her show. And yes I've noticed her hands and nails. She has by far the greatest show in my opion.
