stitching felt to felt?

My sewing machine has straight and zigzag stitches, no frills. I want to embroider my granddaughter's name in felt onto the top of her Christmas stocking, also felt. Have been advised that blanket stitch is best. Agree? What size needle? Thanks in advance! chery2
