Take a piece of dental floss and thread it holding the end of it where the spool goes and stopping before the needle threader making sure the presser foot is up. If you feel a resistance you might have a "clog" or piece of thread inside the machine and when you sew your thread is getting hung up on the clog. breaking your thread.
