we're looking for the same troughs for our kitchen. using the wine bottles as a reference, these look to be about 12" x 6" x 6". (the one in the middle seems to be half the length, so about 6" x 6" x 6".)

after much searching, the best/closest i can find is a commercial bread loaf pan http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001888PKA/ . however, they are only 4" deep and wide, so you wouldn't be able to get wine bottles two deep as shown in the photo, and they'd also sit a bit higher. i'd also expect it to be a challenge to find pots for the herbs that are < 4" wide/deep. on the other hand, though, they're commodity items. (not sure how much it would cost to custom fabricate them or how one would go about that.)

before i came across the loaf pan, we were trying to find metal planters, but they all appear to be heftier than what's pictured here.

anyone else have luck replicating this look?

I'm late to the game here but it appears that you may be able to use 6" deep hotel pans to replicate look. They are available in various sizes via restaurant suppliers.

ah, a "hotel pan"... thanks for the magic search terms! they're good from a functional perspective, but the edge style wasn't quite right.

still not sure how it will work out, though. we're still 8-10 weeks away from kitchen install.

@sjblecher - the window planter from Williams Sonoma is a brilliant idea. I have been searching everywhere for troughs but this seems perfect for planting herbs in the middle of the island
