Do you have a programmable coffee maker?

...and if so, how do you like it? I've never had any need for one until now, but our schedules are getting tighter and it'd be nice to save a few minutes by having the coffee started on its own. Are we a pampered society or what? :0)

My parents have used a programmable coffee maker pretty much since they were first introduced. My mother sets it up to brew when she does the dishes from dinner.

Ours has a timer. I have never used it. But that is because DH and I don't drink coffee and it only comes out of the cabinet when we have company.

But, if we DID drink coffee, I think it would be wonderful to have the coffee ready when you want it and not have to factor that additional task into an early morning routine.

I do. Love it. Use it daily.

Mine has a timer and I used it for awhile when I was working. However, if I came downstairs earlier than usual, I had to wait for it. Now I just set it up the night before, push the button when I come down the stairs and the pot is half filled by the time I make my bowl of cereal.

I do have one but rarely use the timer. I just go downstairs and get it going before I hop into the shower. DH uses it when he has to be out and about really early. It does have it's uses.

I have always had a programmable coffe pot. However I just bought a new one as Mr. Coffee bit the dust. It never produced hot coffee and never kept it hot. My criteria for a new pot included that it be programmable, have a thermal caraf and make hot coffee. Well , I got 2 out of 3 . It was not programmable. However, it makes 8 cups in under six minutes, so by the time I let the dogs out and put their food down the coffee is done. I set it up the night before. Have not missed the programmable feature at all.

Thanks, everyone! I always set the coffee the night before, too, to make things easier in the morning. I'll have to take a look at programmables and see what's what. Thanks again!

We've always had a programmable coffee pot that we set up the night before & it's brewed by the time we get up. Finding a pot we like is hit or miss; the last one was krups KM4065- has a dual timer; so we can push 1 for it to brew for hub & 2 for it to brew for me. Nice if you get up at different times. There were various things I dislike about it; mainly the top lid where you fill the coffee & water; I hate that it's one piece. We like pots where there is a lid over the grinds & another over the water fill. Can't count the number of times I spilled the grinds into the water.

It died this morning; so we'll be looking for a new pot. Thankfully we keep one in the basement for days like this. It's one of our old ones that the teflon came off of the burner; otherwise it works but burns the coffee

We've found that pots that take the #4 filter have a better flavor then the Mr Coffee type filter. The reason is that it takes longer for the hot water to pass over the grinds.
