I have below a link to the Janka Rating of Hardwood Flooring. Amendoim is a hard wood while Tauri is similar in hardness to American Oak. Tauri is Brazilian Oak and is not Amendoim I am told.

I see what you mean. Some sites have Tauri at 880 and other sites have it at 2920 but the majority have the rating at 1460 and say it is 13% harder than American Red Oak.

From pictures on the BR-111 site, it appears Amendoim is darker with a touch of red/pink compared to Tauari that is more tannish with less color variation. But then again, I have seen Brazilian Oak floors that are so knotty.

I wonder if there are so many types of Brazilian Oak and there is not a standard for stores that all their wood this?

Now I am curious also and would love more input from others more knowelegeable.

The Brazilian woods are very confusing. I love the look of the BR-111 Amendoim- it has a very nice looking finish and is really pretty. But we have a big skylight in our kitchen and under the strong natural light, the red tones really come out in the sample. Actually, it totally amazes me how this floor's appearance can change depending on the lighting on it. Anyway, our granite has more yellows, greens, and browns and the Amendoim doesn't look quite right to me. Sigh... That led me to the Tauari, which as you say, is more tan. I'm looking at a brand called Nature Flooring. The whole floor is 1/2" thick but the top layer is about half as thick as the BR-111, and then I came across the conflicting Janka ratings. So now I'm not sure what to do. Next step is probably another visit to the floor store (for the umpteenth time).

I can provide here a better reference for brazilian woods. From a technical institute specialized in that and many other things it's IPT. here you can search using "nome popular" set "tauari" or any other brazilian wood. Then on the result you can search for "Dureza janka paralela" that is janka hardness there are two type at 12% humidity or dry I suppose. There are many other physical characteristics too. Don't forget to convert from newtons to pounds force that is divide by ~4.48. For example tauari has janka hardness of 3727 N or 831 pounds force. here the tauari page Enjoy!
