Macy's Baldwin Sectional

I've been searching the forum for comments about Macy's furniture, and I see bad things about leather, but I wonder about fabric. Here's a sectional that people rave about on the website; it's more expensive than Pottery Barn (I'm looking at these because I need one that breaks down into small pieces in order to get it into our narrow turned stairway to the basement).

Any thoughts?

Sorry the sectional was actually called Reprise (link below). They all start to look and sound the same after awhile.

    Thank you.

John, I see the sectional you're looking at. Looks nice, with good reviews.

There are posts here about Macy's leather furniture, but I was hoping some might chime in with feedback on Macy's upholstered goods in general. The slipcovered sectional I'm looking at online (not in any stores around here) is about $1000 more than the Pottery Barn basic sectional, so my question is whether or not it's worth it. This is for the basement rec room, so we didn't want to spend a fortune -- but at the same time, it will get heavy use, so I don't want it to fall apart either.

Reviews on the Macy's site are so glowing that I wonder if they are plants. Or, is Macy's stuff that good?

I'm going to answer my own question, in case anyone finds this thread.

There's another thread on this board (link below). The manufacturer is Modern Concepts (a McCreary company). None of the Macy's in the DC area has it on the floor, they can't get swatches so you can see the colors, and it is special order. But people rave so much about it, I am tempted to go ahead and order (sale price for the 3-piece sectional is $2779).

The PB Basic sofa is made by Mitchell Gold. I bought 2 of them 9 years ago and they have held up great. I got the standard poly cushions- they still look and feel good, not saggy.
I have replaced the slipcovers since the original ones took a beating from my kids and dog.
I would recommend PB sofas- I'm thinking of getting another one. I would just go with one of the polyester fabrics (everyday suede, performance twill, etc).

I don't have first hand experience with Macy's furniture, but I have heard that the quality isn't that great. My friend bought a sofa 6 mo ago and the dye transfers to your clothes when you sit on it. Macy's says there is nothing wrong w/ the sofa. She's been pretty unhappy with the customer service at Macy's dealing with this issue.

I have been in love with the Baldwin sectional at Macy's for 8 months. The best price they would give me is $3200. I am in Florida and went to Ballard Designs who has the same sofa just not in the sunflower slipcover. I decided on the regular sofa which is $999 (sofa), $320 (slipcover) and $100 delivery fee. I am trying to find a wholesaler here who will order it for me. Check out www. ballarddesigns.com. Hope that gives you another option.

Arhaus Furniture has a sectional made by McCreary Modern that is also named "Baldwin".

Close to you would be the Tysons or Fairfax Corner stores.
I know the Fairfax store has the Baldwin.
    It is VERY comfortable.
    This comes as a sectional.

Thanks! Interesting that they keep the name "Baldwin" for different vendors (seems so many manufacturers play name games). I like Ballard and have bought case goods from them before, but I think I prefer the sectional. I will check Arhaus and see if they have it on the floor.

I also started looking at a new sectional at Macys called "Cologne" by Jonathan Louis. The single advantage is that the arm ends are actually corners, giving more flexibility. I may get this for the Rec Room, which is suited to a contemporary style, and get the Baldwin for the family room (after we finish paying for the Rec Room!).

BTW, after reading the forums, I go to the stores and find that I know more than the salespeople. These forums are a valuable resource for consumers.
