I was told by the sales person that the laminate flooring I got was waterproof so maybe it is the same as you are seeing. Anyway, it is indeed waterproof and have had no problems in the 2 years we have had it in the bathroom. I love it and would highly recommend it. The flooring we tore out was also laminate and it showed no signs of water damage either.

It is waterproof to everyday water spills, etc., but if you ever have a flood and the water is able to get to the bottom of the laminate, it will mean tearing up the entire floor. For that reason I went with good ole ceramic because the thought of having to rip out flooring made me cringe. Same goes for laminate in the kitchen. It's great until you have a major flood of some kind.

That is why, like Brutuses, I have tile in my bathrooms and I am going with tile in my kitchen since I do not want to have to deal with any major spills or floods again.

If you are in a flood plane, you probably would be better off with tile in the entire house. But a lot of us are not in flood planes and laminate works great and withstands everyday water spills.
