You should be able to use only one stage of the heat pump. This would allow you to set the blower to speed you need when the heat pump is operating.

Thank you. But i wold like to take advantage of the two stages. I think I read where there is a retrofit motor to make a single speed variable speed. Do I have change the control board in the furnace to accomodate the primary source of heat the heat pump? Thanks

You could change the blower to be a multi-speed motor. This will allow the blower to operate at low and high speeds depending which stage of the heat pump is in use. I assume you would have to change the control board since I highly doubt the current board could control a multiple speed motor. I am not sure if this is even feasible.

It is the 5 ton ac unit that is currently wired to the control board along with the oil fired furnace and both utilize the same blower to move the air. I am just replacing the 5 ton AC with a heat pump/AC to take advantage of the efficiency of the heat pump. But your not sure if this current board is compatible with a heat pump or if i have to put in a new one? I know i have to change the thermostats.Thanks

You would have to Have an adapter fitting installed on the indoor unit ( basically a relay) that Uses different blower speeds to set for y1 and y2 .
