Check out this page at Lion Brand's site. I ran a search for knit scarves only. There are several that fit the criteria you mentioned. Maybe you'll find it there.

I know what you are talking about. I finally found out a few months ago how to do it. I'm not good at giving directions but all it is: you wrap the yarn around twice when you knit then when you go back the extra stitch slips off and it is a long stitch. Clear as mud right. Maybe someone else knows what its called or can give clearer directions. I know it is very easy to do and I love doing that stitch.

Thank you ladies for taking the time to answer my inquiry! There's lot of patterns on the Lion Brands site so I'll let you know if I find it. Also Donna..do you mean a YO? I'm not certain, but I think it was a single stand that I saw on the scarf. I'll have to hunt this women down!

I just finished (today in fact) the Patons Bohemian Loopy Scarf. It was all done in garter and the length has loopy fringe. I'm a beginner and it was so easy to do. If your not aware of Patons Bohemian yarn your missing out - it's soooo soft and they have great colors. I purchase mine at the local Michaels store.

Two of my daughters (ages 7 and 11) are begging me to make each of them one.

Van, I went to Patons web site (you have to join free) under free patterns they have the pattern for the Bohemian Loopy scarf. Hope that is what you are looking for.

Tracy, I am going to take the pattern to my local yarn shop and have the lady show me how to do that stitch. LOL I am one of those people that have to have a visual to learn. It really looks like a fun one to do.

I signed up on Patons site, but am awaiting their reply so I can log in. In the meantime I found the pattern on acmoore.com. It's rated easy but I'm not familiar with some of the terminology...like you Donna I have to see someone do it. This is what I found:
Cast on 18 sts.
Work in garter st until work from beg measures 43 ins.
NEXT ROW: K3. Cast off 12 ts. Fasten off. Slip off first 3 and last 3 sts for fringe.
Unravel first 3 and last 3 sts along lengh of scarf.

Van, that is all there is to the pattern. I went to the yarn shop today and the lady explained how to do it. Really easy. You knit the scarf in garter stitch to the lenght you want. The last row knit 3 then bind off 12 stitches, cut yarn and finish as if it was the last stitches.(you will have 3 stitches on each needle) Then pull your needles off. Unravel the 3 stitches on each side of the scarf. It really sounds strange but easy and fun to do. Hope this helps, e-mail me if you have questions.

I am going to try this pattern for DSs roommate who just started graduate school at NYU this week. Bright, vibrant purple, the school's color, here I come! I wonder if I can do her initials in relief on the ends. I will use worsted in order to get the school's proper shade of purple, so I will have to fiddle with gauge. Maybe knit with a double strand of the yarn????
