Is there a way of making a newborn hat pattern into one that would fit a 6 month old? I found a very cute pattern for my new granddaughter. Made it, but by the time I finished it, it was too small! I'd like to make the same hat but how do I add on the stitches to make it bigger?
Is there some sort of formula? I should be able to figure this out, but math is not my strong point.

Foggyj, I looked at the pattern you're asking about. First question is, what yarn did you use? It says you can use dk (sport) or worsted weight. If you used the worsted weight and size 8 needles as suggested and it is still too small, then you could make the hat bigger by casting on more stitches in increments of 8. That will keep the decrease pattern correct, I think. Take a measurement of the baby's head and look at the hat you already made and measure the width of 8 stitches. You'll then know how many multiples of 8 you should add. Was this helpful?

I did use the sport wt.yarn. The last time her head was measured it was 13 1/2 in. The pattern is very small.
