It is close to what I remember, though I did not make the pattern request. The part that goes over the head was a little narrower. It did not go past the crown of the head. In fact, it did not touch the crown (the top of the head where it becomes the back of the head). It also was two thicknesses of knit and usually in white angora. You have the i-cord right. Sometimes the i-cord ended in rather large pom-poms. The shape was a very long oval which covered the ears well, as does yours. We liked wearing the hat because it did not mess up our hair and was easy to wear, even with a ponytail.

I had a hat like that! Actually 2 of them. Mom crocheted me one, and someone she knew knitted me one that was double thick. I loved them. I just printed it out so I can make me one for now. Thanks for the link.

The crown hat would be great to make for a little girl to play princess dress up!

I think that's the pattern I used. I made a child size one in red and trimmed it with a white fuzzy yarn. It came out really cute for the holiday's.

I live in Minnesota, and it's been pretty windy here lately. I deviated from the pattern considerably with the width because I need it to keep my head warm.
