1) The afghan may have been knit of higher priced yarns like silk, baby alpaca, etc. and then sold at a pricey store. Also, if you use 7 yarns and need 700-1000 yards of each, it would cost more to make than a regular afghan. Then again, they might be exaggerating the price, but it could be very beautiful with that variety of yarn. Heavy too.

2) I have the impression they are instructing that it be knit with 7 yarns at once (or whatever number you choose). Maybe some of the colors would get lost in that number; maybe 5 would be better.

3) I could be wrong, but it seems to me that it isn't striped, but knit with all strands at once.

Actually, I tried to write the name Hot Dam Afghan (not Damn), but the site just swallowed it up into that black hole of no-nos.

I was taken by the idea of knitting one a while back but then thought twice when I considered how bulky and heavy the whole thing might be on the needles. Circular needles would be preferable and they're hard to find in the large sizes. You'd probably need to use light, fluffy yarns like mohair, ribbon yarns, and baby acrylic. The total cost of the yarn would be an issue too, unless you got it on sale. Too bad Home Depot doesn't sell yarn. They'd have it for the right price and quantity for the "HD" afghan!
