Wombat, I looked at that listing. It says that the outfit is knit, but I am fairly sure it is crochet. I have a very old baby book with a pattern for a jacket that looks almost identical. The blanket would be easy to make based on the chevron pattern. Not sure if a hat is included with my pattern. I'll take a look. I think I actually have two of those books. Are you interested in one? It's Coats and Clark's Knit and Crochet for Boy and Girl Babies.

Donna, do you have any daughters (or sons) who do yarn work like you do? You sound (no, you ARE) a walking encyclopedia for us here! I think I can speak for most of us, and say how much we appreciate all your help. Anyway, Your stash of "stuff" must be valuable and hopefully someone in your family will inherit it.

Foggy, thank you for the compliment. I'm glad to help anyone with their knitting or crochet projects. It makes me sad that not very many young people are taking up the crafts. I have a son (30) and a daughter (27), but neither showed any interest. I am teaching my 6 year old grandson to crochet, though. My 79 year old mom, who taught me to crochet at 6, is still hooking, though.

Check the obituaries, because when I leave this planet, there will probably be a large haul to GoodWill and the right customer will hit the jackpot.

I just wish I could curb my enthusiam just a bit and stop buying yarn and work up my stash.

I would think once someone has mastered a pleasurable/constructive, hobby like you have, it would be hard NOT to overdo enthusiam. I look at my stash and say "I have to do somtething with all this yarn." I see a multicolored afghan in the future!

Funny you mention Good Will. Whenever I go in ours, the first thing I look for is yarn,etc. Never have found anything related to knitting though. Not yet.

It costs Australians a minimum of around $20 to get funds to the US, whether it be bank transfer, exchanging bank notes or using telegraphic transfer. And that's on top of our exchange rate which adds around one third to the deal.

Wombat, I got the boy and girl words backwards. It's actually girl and boy babies. I found a link that mentions the book number and offers for free one of my favorite patterns from the book. A beautiful thread crochet bib. I do have a PayPal account, and if you cannot find a copy of the book somewhere and would like to reimburse shipping, the well worn book is yours. I am out of town for the weekend (how addicted to this place am I?) but will be home Sunday evening. I'll probably check back in here at least once more this weekend. Who am I kidding? I'll be checking back at least 3 times a day.

Thanks for the link. Would you believe that I downloaded the pattern for that bib only a few weeks ago and made up it up (in Perle) as a welcome to the world present for a new baby. I had a hard time convincing the mum it was only cotton - she thinks it is much too nice to use and has put it away for a keepsake. If I'd known she was going to do that, I'd have put the ribbons in.

Don't hold your breath though. I decided to diligently work my way through the list of "already committed myself to" before I start on anything else.

But then, autumn is with us and the winter chill is just around the corner (I know that because my extremely determined and vocal Burmese cat is sitting on my lap with his chin draped over my arm as I type) and I decided to make the three young women in my life (1xdaughter, 2xsons' girlfriends - all tertiary students so they need warm feet) warm socky things. And then it's back to the list.

So much for being committed.
