What a wonderful thing to receive! I would suggest that they be used only for a special occasion. If you think they need washed, hand wash in very very mild soap rinse til clear, then roll in a towel to get the water out. Do not wring, do not let them hand. Lay flat to dry. Depending on what thread was used and how it has been stored over the years, wether they will fall apart or not. I have some edgings that my grandmother tatted, but I have no idea how old they are. The last she tatted was before 1971, maybe 1968? I have a doily that my great aunt crocheted that I still use.
