A friend gave me a huge stack of older crafting mags..most are from the 70's. On the cover of one, Family Circle 1970, it shows a beautiful crochet afghan. I would have been miffed back then to have bought the magazine because upon searching the mag the afghan and several other crochet "take it with you" projects it says you have to send for the patterns. Pretty misleading if you ask me..feature it on the front cover and then make you send for the pattern...grrrrrrr

anyway....... I have never seen anything quite like this afghan (the pic inside also shows the various pieces put together as a cardigan type sweater too)

it is comprised of granny squares but the unique thing is that it also features pieces that are shaped like...

kind of a rectangle lozenge kinda shape?

Of course the photo is just not quite clear enough to distinguish the stitches and I have tried to figure out how to get the rectangle part pointy on the ends but have had no luck.

I believe the called the pattern a mosaic granny squares.

I have searched on the net for several hours trying to find something that resembles this but haven't had any luck... all I come up with are sites that show the traditional granny square squares.

I'd write Family Circle but I'm pretty sure that they aren't going to have the pattern from 35 years ago....

Let me know if this sounds familiar at all..would love to figure this out!
