Quick Crocheted Booties
Using wosted yarn and an H or G hook.

Ch 12.
Round 1--sc in 2nd chain from hook and in next 9 chs. Three sc in next ch, which will become the toe. Turn and sc in remaining 10 loops on the other side of the chain, ending with 3 sc in the last (11th) stitch. Do not join. Ch 1. (note that the yarn Tail hangs down from the Toe)

Round 2--Sc in each sc to center of toe. 3sc in next sc. Sc to center of heel--3 sc in next sc. Do not join. Ch 1.

Round 3, 4, 5--sc in each sc.

Round 6--Sc to within 3 stitches of the center of the toe. Decrease 3 times. Sc remaining sts in row.

Round 7--Repeat round 6.

Round 8--Repeat round 6 and join with a slip stitch. Ch 3.

Round 9--*Skip one sc, hdc in next sc, ch 1. Repeat around. Join with a sl st. Ch 1
Round 10--*Sc in ch 1 sp, ch 1, repeat around. Join with a sl st. Ch 2

Round 11-- Hdc in each sc and ch space around. Join with a sl st and fasten off. Weave in ends and trim.

Ties--Make 2 using an F hook. Ch 2; 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Then make a chain that is 16-18 inches long. Pull last stitch on chain into a 4 inch long loop, thread through your yarn needle, and weave the tie into the ch 1 eyelet holes at the ankle of the bootie, being sure to center the ends over the instep of the ankle; then tighten that long loop onto your crochet hook. Now in the 2nd chain from the hook, sc 7 times. Fasten off and weave ends into the the 7 sc. Trim ends. Hopefully the little knobs you have crocheted at the ends of the ties will prevent them from pulling out in the wash.

It is easy to make these booties a little larger or smaller by lengthening or shortening the initial ch 12. You can also use sport weight yarn, but then you will need to use a smaller hook and add more length to the chain to get a good fit. For newborns, you might want to make the booties just a little smaller.

Nothing stays on a baby's feet as well as homemade booties.

I like to make a sweater and hat and then if the pattern does not have matching booties, I just use the same yarn and crochet these booties to match.

I have been crocheting these booties in lots of colors as part of a gift for a friend's grandbaby. It is so nice to have booties that coordinate with the baby's outfit. So I made pink, lavendar, yellow, red, and white for a baby. Will add some cream colored ones too. I knitted a pink sweater, hat and booties and crocheted an edge to some pink printed cotton diapers for cute burp cloths. Have to edge the receiving blanket still. I need to finish up her gift and send it off as she is due to have a C section shortly.
