Quirkpod, I am not very good at modifying patterns, but from the little bit I read of the pattern on the lion brand web site, I think that you could make it a shawl just by not joining at the neck edge and turning at each round as if it was flat work, not done in the round. I don't know how new you are to crochet, but if you have done more than just one or two projects, I think you would be alright. You might want to do a little bit of an edging on the center front, at least I think that's where you would be making the split! Perhaps Sheilajoyce or someone with more experience than I have will be able to help.

Thank you, that's exactly what I want to do, but dont know where to start/stop/adapt the directions. Can someone please rewrite them for me? Also, I've been crocheting for about a month now and have only made one thing - a triangle shawl using the single crochet stitch. Very happy with the results.

Quirkpod, I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow, so don't have time to re-write the pattern for you. If the join for the chain is in the front, just make your turns there. If it's in the back, find the center point and use that as your opening and turning point. I re-read the pattern, but at a quick glance, I'm not sure where the join is. Play with it a little and you probably can figure it out. If not, maybe Sheilajoyce can help, but her daughter is getting married in a few weeks, so she might not be at the forum much.
If you still need some help when I get back, I will try.
