Fringe on Man's Scarf??

I'm crocheting a black Caron Simply Soft scarf for DS who is going to be 47 next month and lives and works in cold climate, sometimes outdoors. What is the rule (if any) for fringe on a guy scarf???? Yes, no, shorter than for a woman????
