Beehive is (was?) a British company. I totally agree with Donna that this would be the "lift-and-knit-the-running-thread" increase, although expressed in somewhat arcane terms. Interesting, though!

Thanks for your suggestions. I guess that I should have realized that basically it was an increasing stitch and all I had to do was make it come out looking Ok. I am just picking up the crossed loop and knitting it. It seems to be working out Ok. This is one of those patterns where you have to almost count every stitch and knit carefully or (and that means ripping back right?)

I have found an old knitting pattern by Patons using Sea Spray wool. The pattern number is 8723. I cannot seem to find this wool anywhere. Does Patons do something similar that can be recommended for me to be able to knit this rather lovely summer top?

I am knitting a matinee coat from an old Paton's and Baldwin's Woolcraft Book. As this book is very old first couple of pages are missing which contained the meaning of abbreviations. Can someone help me with the following term "Work 3 rows in stg. st."
