Just increase one stitch. Or if you need to add more than one stitch, you can knit or purl the first stitch, but do not pull that old stitch off the left hand needle. Now you have a new stitch on the right needle, and the old stitch on the left. If you need more stitches added, just keep knitting that first stitch without removing it from the needle until you have enough. Hope this helps.
