I'm on the sleeves!

I started knitting sleeves to the sweater/jacket I'm working on but after casting on and knitting the first 8 rows in straight knit all rows, it continues with the stockinette stitches. There is no mention of switching to the larger needles as the body. The body had ribbing sideways in smaller needles (5), then pick up stitches for the body in size 7 needles. In the picture, it appears the stitches in the sleeves look the same size, albeit it's hard to see this until I've knit a larger section. Anyway, I ripped out what I did and will start over. Has anyone had a pattern like this where the sleeves were knit in the smaller needles. Pattern is stockinette in sleeves and body main portions. I'm traveling, so will check in when I can to see if anyone has some help for me on this. I left my magazine at home, Knitter's magazine Spring 2005. It's the light blue Blue Ridge Jacket if anyone has this issue that sees this post.
