I have never been able to make an active link when initiating a thread, only in subsequent postings, which I am doing for you here.

The reason that your potholder is not coming out square is that you are either not crocheting enough rounds, or you are crocheting too many rounds. At least, that has been my experience with this potholder. And I have made many of them. Periodically pull the ends to see when you have a square.

Well, I just read those instructions and it must be one of those things that makes sense when you're doing it! Hopefully Donna L's answer helped.

When you post a new message and hit the preview button, the next screen has the same links at the bottom for putting in an URL and a name for it - you put them in there then hit preview again, and submit.

Thanks! That was it, I just needed to do more rounds! I had actually done this last year, but i was bringing the ends together wrong.

I used a Bernat Softee Chunky Yarn and It is too heavy and thick. It would be good to put a hot pan on, but difficult to bend to pull a hot pan out of the oven. I will play with with a larger hook and different yarn, but so glad I "found" the pattern for my grandma's potholders!
