Jannie, I don't knit one handed, but when I learned to knit as a youngster, it was too much for me to coordinate both hands, so I usually propped one needle in the crotch of my jeans.

This is a bit pricey, but maybe something like this would make it easier to knit one handed:

Can you tuck the other needle under your arm, in your armpit? I have seen it done, by a lady I know who had extensive surgury due to cancer, and has lost alot of muscle in her shoulder, but I haven't seen her in over a year due to her work schedule, so I can't describe how she does it. She could only come to our knitting group when she wasn't teaching college courses, so I didn't get to see her much, anyway. I hope you can find a way. Knitting can be so thearputic. I call my knitting group my therapy! I don't know if it's cheaper, but I don't buy yarn every week, just once in a while.
