I crocheted for 5 years before I learned to knit. Crocheting goes much faster for me, and it is my first love. But I'm so glad I learned to knit. Clothing seems bulkier in crochet and there are some lovely knit stitches. I actually seem to do more knitting than crochet at the moment. I say, go for it.

I learned to knit because someone once told me knitting used about 1/3 less yarn to cover the same area. I don't know it that's true or not but at the time I was on a very tight budget.

Definitely learn to knit also. It will add to the different looks you are able to create and your knowledge of yarn and yarnwork.

Crochet does take quite a bit more yarn than knitting.

You can knit wonderful socks.

I learned how to knit when I was a little girl and never really liked it. I lost too many stitches. To me sometimes you don't have to "think" when crocheting. But I'd go and take the classes if I were you. It can't be too much $$ And of course you'll always have the needles. You might find you like it better than crocheting. My mother and sisters both liked to knit and one sister made those great Knit-o-graf pictures on her kids sweaters.

Thanks for all your input. I'm sending in the registration today! I recently bought tons of yarn from "Smileys.com" so I have lots of yarns to practice on, and hopefully turn out some treasures in the future. Oh, I am so wanting to knit socks...great idea Mirren.

Definitely learn to knit. Knit clothing is so much more attractive. And it does save on yarn. I like making some things in crochet, and others in knit. For example, I might crochet a baby blanket in a layette, but then I will use the same yarn and knit the sweater, hat and booties.

definitely learn to knit. I crocheted and knitted as a child, I have now learned to also tat and smock. I think you will find that knitting gives you more options. Personally I like knitted clothes better than crocheted. I
