I used to have a pattern that made a large circle shawl. I can't remember if it was knit or crochet, but it came from one of the women's magazines in the 70s or 80s. The key thing was that it was made with leftover yarns and it didn't matter if you used different weights, that just made it look lacier. If anybody has a copy of the pattern, I would love to have it again.
