Studio460 -- what is your backsplash rack system

Studio460 -- in the computer in the kitchen thread you have a photo that shows a rack system that seems to be mounted either immediately below, or on the bottom of you cabs. Can you share what it is, and your opinion of it's functionality?

Thanks, Rita

I figured it would be Ikea as that's what Studio460's kitchen is,and it is. Grundtal is what you would search at ikea.com - in fact, I've searched and posted the link below. There are lots of lights and stuff to sort through, but the shelves, etc. are there.

    rjr220:

It's an Ikea Asker dish drainer hanging from an Asker suspension rail. The suspension rail is designed to hold a number of Asker-specific accessories (dish drainer, soap holder, hooks, etc.). The wood seen above is just another Ikea shelf (Fabian), mounted above the rail, which is completely independent of the Asker assembly. This is only temporary, and will be replaced with 0.25"-thick aluminum plate on the Fabian brackets, instead of the wood.

The "hot" side of the kitchen is really an eclectic mix of Grundtal, Asker, Fabian, and Home Depot steel shelf brackets. It's not as unified as I'd like, due to the number of different finishes and metals, and I still reserve the right to completely change everything! I think the Asker railing is really neat, but they only make a few accessories for it (I'm only using the Asker hooks here, to hold measuring cups and measuring spoons). Again, I like the Asker suspension rail idea a lot--they just don't make too many things to hang on it. Below, is a stainless-steel Grundtal wall shelf we're using as a pot-hanger.

Combining Asker and Grundtal components is a bit of a compromise since Grundtal is all stainless steel, while all of the Asker components are a silverish-gray, painted steel. Both are attractive, but don't contribute to a unified aesthetic due to the different (but similar) finishes. I am planning to use a lot of Grundtal accessories in the bathrooms--I think the Grundtal shelf will make a great-looking (and very functional) towel storage shelf!

    Forgot to tell you . . .

You first have to mount the Asker suspension rail (this does not mount to the cabinets themselves). The Asker dish drainer then hangs on that. The rail attaches to any vertical surface using the appropriate fasteners, depending on your wall. The fasteners are then hidden by the rail's top piece. This installation happens to be on a concrete block wall, covered in laminate, so I used masonry fasteners (large, coarse-threaded, metal screws). If you're going into drywall, it's best to use large wood screws and screw them into the studs. Choose screws that are large enough for strength, but with heads small enough to still be concealed by the rail's top piece.

    Studio-
Thanks -- I'm looking ahead (reno this summer) for a system to put in to hold paper tower holder, a few spices, so I don't require something with alot of accessories. The one thing that pulls at me is drilling into a brand new backsplash . . .
The Container store has a system that is financially as reasonable as Ikea's, but uses suction. I may try that one first, since we're talking lighter items, not heavy pots and pans.

Looks good! Thank you for taking the time to post and share.
