Painting the ceiling blue will keep bugs away. I'm not sure what you mean by store. If you're talking about floor tiles, I would keep them a neutral color, like beige.

What about the pillar/posts? Do you have plans to beef up outer two so you can eliminate the middle post, or is that allowable based on your load, and weather?

Hi greenthumb2, I think the middle post is to stay - that is the way the builder has built it. Do you think the posts are not in proportion? It was done to keep as much of the view as possible.

Hi rayess. Oh, keep the posts, just paint them darker (imo) which you probably already have considered. As for more suggestions, if you can afford and the balcony can withstand the weight; a modern fountain (sleek) maybe a few water lily-type plants and then furniture must be your taste. If the inside of your home is going to be minimalist, perhaps you want something similar outside? They make beautiful weatherproof dark brown faux wicker in rectangular shapes in smaller sizes to accommodate modular settings such as you have here. I would love to see you be able to have at least one tree. Lemon, Olive or something grassy and alive if you opt out of the fountain idea. Only suggest this because the balcony is such a hardscape. You can do so much with proper lighting. You are right to ask for professional help for this space. You will spend more time out here if done right.

It looks like you like a modern style, try straight outdoor curtain panels to hide posts and if you are west or south facing you may want the shade. I have a west facing porch and cannot use it from 1:00 until sunset because it is too hot. I like grey and red together and would be a more modern look. Use grey porcelain tiles that are 12" x 24", or 6" x 12" for a more modern look and mimics the wood on door. a light blue/grey on ceiling would work to heighten the feel of the pergola. Place rectangular planter boxes in front of the brick between the posts to minimize the brick and to add color.

Thanks rayess, it's hard to tell the style of your home on the exterior, perhaps something more permanent with stronger columns to make it feel like it's part of an extended indoor space.
