New kitchen design help

I'm so grateful to have found this site last month, except I've been spending way too much time here! We are in the planning stages of our new home and I would really appreciate some feedback. Right now it's just me and my husband, but we are trying to conceive. We are making room for 1 or hopefully 2 children in our plans. I like to cook (but am quite the amateur) and am trying to move away from canned and processed food, making everything from scratch. So I need a functional kitchen and good storage, both dry and frig/freezer. I also would love 2 sinks, but I'm not sure it will work out. I am looking at the kohler stages 33" for prep, and maybe a blanco silganit performa for clean up, so it seams like a lot of sink! I just found out my husband can get us a deal on KA architect series 48" counter depth frig/freezer, but otherwise I was thinking standard depth French door. I would also like one in the pantry as long as there wouldn't be ventilation probs ( will have a vent in there though). Our frig & freezer are full with just the 2 of us.

So here is the kitchen we've come up with so far. The DW is to the left of the cleanup sink. I was thinking of putting a window over the clean up sink even though it would just go to the sunroom, would tht look stupid? The dining room shown here is the only one in the house. I am wondering about the size-- we entertain sometimes, but it's mostly just the 2 of us for now. I have another version of the dining area that I will post too. I am open to ideas and critique. TIA.

Here's the other dining area we had. I thought it was too wide & narrow. I also changed the island, the one here is about 6 x 7.

It's a pretty good layout. You've been paying attention to what you've read! What I would suggest though is switching the dining room and the kitchen. If you entertain, that would give your dining area room to expand the table into the living area for larger gatherings. Also, I'd personally rather have a sunnier kitchen than dining area. I spend more time there than at the eating table.

Also, you need to think about what all of those covered porches do to the interior of your home. If you are in the South like me, then minimizing the sun exposure to the home is great. If you are in a more northern location, you may not want a porch on your Southern side. Much will also depend on the orientation of the home on the property as well, so you have to consider which way the property faces. If you don't have your lot picked out yet, you may want to wait to engage the architect's services after you've done that so as to maximize the ability of the home to capture views and sunlight.

Thanks livewireoak. I thought about switching the kitchen & the dining area, but didn't know how that would look & what it did to the flow. We live in Oklahoma, so summer sun is a factor. Right now our back yard faces west & the summer afternoon sun heats up that whole side of the house, including the kitchen. I was thinking I'd still get enough light from the dining and family rooms into the kitchen. I know my plan didn't have windows, but the family room & dining rooms will be lined with windows. The back yard will face southwest, and I think we might reverse the plan so the garage and sunroom will be southeast. We are looking at a lot that faces northeast. We need to talk to the architect & builder about positioning the house still. The sunroom will serve as the dog room when we are not home, with a dog door to the yard, so I don't know if we need to keep that at the northwest side of the house instead of southeast so it doesn't get too hot in the summer. The lot is flat so we can place it either way, and the back view doesn't change much. So much to think about! Sorry I'm so wordy.
