men that curl your toes

Something mentioned in another thread got me thinking about the men that are not particulary attractive but just have that "extra something" that makes them very appealing.

The first one that comes to mind is Brad Pitt, not real good looking but has a cute dimple when he smiles.(LOL)

No, seriously....Donald Southerland just does something to me and my imagination. He's certainly not Adonis, but to me he coud be.

And jen, I agree, there's nothing about DL that would ever tempt me.

    David Letterman :)

Just saw him again tonight: Omar Sharif. One of my first crushes, still works, even though I've seen how he aged. I just love the guy. (I just read that he headbutted a police officer in a casino at the age of 71--macho much? naaah :))

Vincent D'Onofrio, before he began to look like Orson Welles. See the way he kisses Renee Zellweger in The Whole Wide World. OMG. Women buy that DVD just to rerun that love scene!

    jason- is that Jennifer Grey?

Oh gosh ~ yes, it's Jennifer Gray and jason is like a young boy with a schoolgirl crush LOL. She is his 'dream goddess'. DH thinks she's a cutie, too.

Back to what makes our toes curl:

    Alan Rickman
    Jean Reno
    Tommy Lee Jones
    Christopher Meloni

    and...

    Kevin Spacey
Chris Cornell (from Soundgarden and Audioslave)
    Terrence Howard
Billy Bob Thornton (don't throw anything at me)
Lawrence Fishburn (anyone see him in Othello? Whew, douse me with cold water. Now.)
    Michael Caine
    Paul Rodgers (it's that voice...OMG, it's magic)

    George Clooney
    Pierce Brosnan

I have a friend who once said she finds Osama Bin Laden incredibly sexy. Creepy, very creepy.

Some of you are listing men that are very attractive according to society's accepted standards. Sure they curl toes...It's the smile, the eyes, the body these guys have been blessed with that does it.

I'm looking for names of men that are "out of the norm" but have sex appeal in spite of not being traditionally handsome.

Some good ones have already been mentioned, but there have to be others.

    Okay...here are a few more:

    Dustin Hoffman
    Richard Dreyfus
    Sean Penn
    Miles Davis
    Jimi Hendrix
    Joaquin Phoenix
Jeremy Sisto (originally from "Six Feet Under"...played a very dark character, but oh my, be still my beating heart))

Robert Duvall - Whatever 'it' is, he's got it!
    Sam Sheppard - that Voice!
    Harvey Keitel - Intensity!

sweeby I love your list - they've ALL got "it"

Stanley Tucci (particularly in "Big Night").

Sadly Mr.Tucci lost his wife of 14 years, Kate Tucci, to cancer this past May. They have 3 young daughters.

    John Malkovich
    Jeff Kober
    Steven Tyler
    Jürgen Prochnow
    Edward James Olmos

Fans of Dustin Hoffman, and who isn't, should go over to the Kitchen Table and read the "I Met Dustin Hoffman!" thread. It's a delightful story and she took very, very nice pictures.

Sable, how cool is that!!! I've always loved Dustin, now I love him even more, lol.

And she was there for the infamous Letterman show too! What a lucky lady!!!

Debatable whether or not he is handsome, but I'll add Benicio Del Toro to the list.

I just saw a trailer for Benicio in The Wolfman (he is the wolfman). Have you seen? Too scary for me.

He doesn't "curl my toes" but Sandra Bullocks' DH Jesse James is nice. He may be covered in tattoos, but he's clean cut, nice mannered and carried himself well when on the last Celebrity Apprentice show.

Natal - always nice to discover that someone you like seems to be a genuinely sweet person, isn't it.

    John Cusack.

    sueb, agreed :)

I don't think I've ever told this to anyone except my husband and daughters but I'll go ahead and share here.

If you didn't see him in person, see him interact with the audience, see how his eyes locked on to one person and spoke to that person from the stage as if that person were the only one in the room-- and if there was ever a man who could make me swoon with his moves, his extraordinary footwork..... tall and lean, clean or gruff when the part demanded it and a man who could bring you to soul-wrenching tears or hysterical laughter with just the twitch of and eyebrow...
No other man can compare or make my toes curl like
    Gregory Hines. RIP

When I told my husband I had seen Gregory Hines in person in the mid 70's and that I had developed an actual crush on the man, I remember hubby's words "But he's not even good-looking. I thought you'd go for the hunky type".

I remember when I told my daughter years and years ago, what I thought of Gregory Hines and her words were "Ewwww...his eyes make him look like a fly!"

I don't care. When that man tapped, sang or acted, it was hypnotic to me, I was mesmerized.

The day it was broadcast live on TV, I taped Sammy Davis Jr's Funeral. I find myself, about once a year, pulling out the tape and fast forwarding it to Gregory Hines--he was one of the main speakers at the funeral.

From White Nights to Jelly's Last Jam to Running Scared and everything else in between....my toes curled each and every time. :)

    Jasonmi7,
No matter how much time has passed, no matter how old she gets (or he gets lol), for my husband it was, is and will always be Ann-Margret.

I totally agree that Gregory Hines had that something, something-- though I never thought of him as unattractive. I guess I never could seperate his manner from his appearance.

There are others mentioned who I never considered unattractive.. I guess we all have different visions of what is beautiful.

My additions.. both from the food world..

Mario Batali - love his passion and gentle approach to sharing and teaching others. Loved his PBS show with Gwyneth Paltrow.

Anthony Bourdain - love his earthy, make no apologies approach to life and his devilish smile. I definitely haven't outgrown my thing for "bad boys".

Densel Washington he makes my blood pressure climb
Russell Crowe he raises the hair on my arms
Joe Penney in his 30's he made my toes curl
My late husband the neighbors "lit up" after our cadoodles

amity I loved your story about GH - there is no 'reason' in our crushes - when that feeling hits, it hits.

And about Ann-Margret..... She went to the same high school that I did, and was a class ahead of my oldest brother. He was on a double date with her (she was the other guy's date) - that's his brush with fame! He still talks about her performance in the annual student production, Lagniappe. The story is, anyone in the audience knew they were seeing a star being born.

I'm with the Alan Rickman crowd - not conventionally handsome, but oh, that deep voice and English accent!

*Tom Selleck: he looked at the house next door to us once when it was on the market, years ago. I don't know if it would've been a blessing or a curse to have that gorgeous guy living next door to me!
    *Sean Connery
    *Pierce Brosnan
    *George Clooney
*Gregory Hines (I agree, he was fantastic. I loved him in "White Nights")
*Alan Rickman (yes, his voice is incredibly sexy)
    * Ben Cross~ one of my all-time favorite movies is "Chariots of Fire" and every time that guy came on the screen, my toes curled . . . they still do!
In the pic below, he's the second guy running:

Hmm.. having a hard time thinking of someone that meets this criteria.

The only person I can think of is Jeremy Irons. I love his voice but that's it. Can't say that my toes curl. The guy is older than my Dad.

Oh wait, I thought of someone. Paul Bettany in the movie A Knights Tale. I have no idea what he's like IRL but there was something attractive about him in that movie.

thought of another, Robert Downey Jr.

Even though he's old enough to be my dad or even grandfather, Christopher Plummer from The Sound of Music. Those blue eyes just make me swoon!

But my top fave...Sam Elliot! Those eyes, that mustache, that VOICE! Haven't seen him in a long time, but the last time I did, I remember he had cut his hair and trimmed the mustache way back....it wasn't quite the same, but it was still good! lol

Hmmm, can't think of any that wouldn't normally be considered attractive (Brad, Johnny, Goran).

imsoconfused - funny about Christopher Plummer. I used to think Harrison Ford was attractive, but now he just looks too much like my dad - and they're the same age too!

Sean Connery still has "it" - I think he's gotten better looking as he got older, though still needs a toupe. The only thing that turns me off about him is the body hair - I can't watch the old James Bond films where he takes his shirt off - yuck!

Sam Elliot's a good choice. I do go for the guys with the voices listed above - and not that *he* ever made my toes curl, but James Earl Jones's voice does!!! I saw him in Othello with Christopher Plummer as Iago. Magnificent (both of them)! I forget who played Desdemona - wasn't watching *her*. Oh, and I was also lucky enough to see Anthony Quinn live in Zorba the Greek.

I've seen too many Harry Potter movies to be attracted to Alan Rickman, though I agree I love his voice.

I have to confess, my ex's voice still makes my toes curl. But DH is still cute (another guy who got better with age), and even though his voice, handwriting, and kisses don't compare, he has certain other qualities my ex doesn't ;-)

    I can't believe I forgot my #1 sinful thought.
Steve McQueen. He was 100% all male.
He was such a bad boy and I would have walked across
    Texas for him.

    Bono

Just saw his photo today. Although long deceased, I always thought Jason Robards was very attractive---especially in "All The President's Men". I guess you could call him both "craggy" looking & sounding.

Sam Elliot! That's who I meant -- Sheppard?...

    Oh, how could I forget...

    Gary Cooper
    Cary Grant
    Sean Connery
    Eric Roberts

I think Mono is waiting to see Paul Giamatti or James Gandolfi on the list: unattractive men who attract.
    But not from me :)

I like Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs. Charming, a good sense of humor, a voice to die for and he doesn't look bad shirtless. He is about my age, so I can have a crush without feeling creepy.

funkyart - My 16 year old daughter is a huge "No Reservations" fan. It scares me a bit! I find Anthony Bourdain very charming, but he turns my "stay away" radar on high alert.

Here is a link that might be useful: Images

Lol Sweeby! I wondered if you meant Sam Elliot. And Deee, I agree about Mike Rowe. Forgot about him!

Bob Cilman, who conducts the "Young at Heart" chorus, has a certain spark.

    Jon. Hamm.

    sigh...

Mike Rowe...yes! How could I have forgotten about him? Besides his looks, persona, voice, whole package thing, there is definitely something about his upper arms that drives me ga-ga.

Wait ... I thought this thread was about men who aren't necessarily "pretty" but have that little something that makes them attractive.

I don't think Jon Hamm qualifies! I mean ... look at how beautiful he is! ;-D

Gregory Peck in his youth and as a older man.
    Paul Newman
    Philip Seymore Hoffman
    Clive Owen
    Sir Anthony Hopkins
    Robert Duvall
    Anthony Quinn
    Onassis

    Clint Eastwood
    Gene Hackman
    Kevin Costner
    James Caan

    O.M.G. Aaron Eckhart. Simply dreamy.

Jon Hamm is the same person who was Liz Lemon's 'living in the bubble" boyfriend, right? The one whose first date culminated in a conversation with his mom on her deathbed? If he is, then he's distinctly unqualified for this thread - I cite 'the bubble' as proof! (we LOVE 30 Rock in our house :))

    Hey, hey, hey...

Not one other woman in my 30-something crowd of girlfriends agreed with me that Jon Hamm was completely, insanely hot. Maybe it's our age??? He WOULD be too old for me, irl.

AND he was called "ugly" on the last episode of Mad Men!

I stand by my answer ;)

Ed Harris -- Another closet hottie!

I used to love Ray Liotta - I didn't think he was gorgeous but he had that "something"

Oh, sweeby! Ed Harris. Gosh darn, I forgot about him, but how on earth I don't know. And Robert Duvall...yes, yes, yes! They certainl;y have "it", at least for me.

    Hector Elizondo
