System quote -- what do you think?

I just got a quote I want to run by you. Please let me know what you think. Originally I was looking to only replace my A/C, but the furnace is just as old and he said it's only $2000 more to replace it now because there is no additional labor and if I have to do it later, it would cost around $3800. So it seems to make sense to do it all at the same time. The new system would be a Rheem:

Furnace-- 105,000 BTU, 92% AFUE CAS Downflow RGTA10EVAJS

Outside condensing unit -- 4 ton 13 SEER RANL048JA2

Coil -- RHSLHM4821JA

He also will install a new Honeywell Digital Progammable Pro6000 thermostat and tune up the system in my basement (which is a separate apartment and has it's own furnace and A/C unit). Also, new pad, flush pipes, etc. Warranty -- 10Y compressor; 5Y parts; 1Y labor

Total: $7750

Thanks in advance!

    OK-

The coil is a model number for an air handler, so that must be a mistake. Rheem coils are RCFL. Ask this company if they can include a furnace with a variable-speed blower at no extra cost before you sign. Was the equipment properly sized according to a load calculation? I would suggest the VisionPRO 8000 thermostat from Honeywell. The FocusPRO 6000 is an okay thermostat, but I'm partial to the VisionPRO. It's a nice touchscreen thermostat.

Was this quote from one of the companies I recommended? I don't think it is since it's Rheem equipment.

Thanks, Ryan. No, it's not one of the companies you recommended. I don't know if you remember, but about a month ago I had problems with a freon leak and had a company that I had a contract with totally screw me over. I had someone else come to check their work because I didn't trust them and this is that person. He was really nice and didn't charge me for that visit and back then he didn't think it was necessary for me to replace the system just yet. He also talked to me for a long time and answered all of my questions. My compressor now seems to be dying so I think I just have to do it.

I found him through a local blogger and spoke to a couple of people he had installed systems for who totally raved about him, including someone who's writing a home improvement blog for washingtonian online. And he does a ton of work in my area, which is a big plus.

By the way, about the montgomery county recommendation, I'm in adams morgan and although it's only about a 15 minute drive from bethesda, some companies just don't want to come into the city. Doesn't make sense because parking is a breeze during the day (although as I'm sure you know, at night it's a completely different story), but I've talked to several who refuse to come to adams morgan.

    Thanks again.

Thanks, Tiger. Can you elaborate on why you think dual fuel would be better? I asked the guy today about this and a couple of other techs/salespeople before and all said they wouldn't recommend it for my house. Thanks.

    ontario

why wouldn't the dealer recommend dual fuel for your house?

    what is your electric rate?

what is your nat gas rate?

crunch the numbers on attached fuel comparison calculator...

    IMO

    Another inexperienced salesman/tech with blinders

Don't they understand give what the custome asks for and make more money besides?

Send this dealer back to the manufacturers school on applications and sales!
