Kitchen Progress Pics

Still a work in progress but coming along.

Alberene soapstone counters, Shaws sink upmounted. I need to custom carve another piece of soapstone to trim under the sink.

Backsplash is going to be a semi-subway carrera marble (it really pulled in a lot of the soapstone and cabinet color elements. Final wall color will be a shade lighter than that (we need to repaint, there are still some splotchy areas).

Floors are red oak, 4 side bevel with walnut plugs to match the adjacent family/great room. Waterlox finish.

Cabinets were Conestoga from CabinetAuthority.com.

Still need to do trim moulding, upper doors, backsplash and the fridge surround cabinet, but other than that it is coming along nicely. Wife is very happy to have a sink and dishwasher back in service.

The rough-in there is for a Brew Express coffee maker.

Thanks again for all the help.

Your kitchen is looks wonderful! Are you happy with the Conestoga cabs? Were they easy to assemble? They look great! Your sink and soapstone are beautiful! Can't wait to see more--especially that BS! Oh, and your floor is gorgeous!

I have a love/hate relationship with Conestoga. Their finishing is gorgeous and the drawer boxes are great. The cabinets were pretty easy to assemble, although the corner cabinets were tricky. The add-ons like soft close, shelf "super" susan, and such were much cheaper than I could have bought myself (and are Blum / Rev-A-Shelf).

The hate part was their quality control. All my base cabinet left sides had a groove 1/16" off for the top shelf. The first cabinet I made could not be made square because of this. The machine must have gotten debris in it that shifted the whole run, but nobody caught it. They sent replacements immediately, but it was a delay. An upper side panel completely delaminated and came apart -- again they replaced it, but this looked so bad that someone had to have seen it before shipping.

Also, they are geared towards professionals who want CNC capability to speed up their own semi-custom jobs. Because of this, you have to know EXACTLY what you want. If you want a cabinet 1/8" shorter than spec, then you also have to make sure the order has drawer boxes that are also narrower and such. They are not automatically caught. The CabinetAuthority rep helped a lot, but there are so many little details that they can't catch for you and if you only do this once (as this was my first time) you don't even know you have to pay attention to. I would probably use them again, but just know you have to plan everything meticulously and inspect everything thoroughly upon arrival.

Overall, though, we are pretty happy with them. $9k for premium upgrades, two tall cabinets, decorative end panels, and a glaze finish. We were quoted around $16k for the same design with no decorative end panels. If we'd gone with no glazing or end panels it would have been closer to $7k (again with the Blum slides and soft close doors, etc).

Thanks for the compliments. The floor was a match to the family room. Had to drill all the peg holes myself and bevel the ends as we forgot to mention we wanted a 4 side bevel when ordering. The Waterlox really shows off the grain. We have poly floors elsewhere in the house and when you see them close together the difference is astounding. Now our only worry is how well the grooves will clean. So far any vacuum with a brush on it pulls all the debris up.
