YEAH , it's almost finished!

Hey ya'll! Happy New Year to you all. Just to report that our kitchen remodel is almost finished. Two things left to do, get a plug cover for motion sensor (probably custom) and build cabinet over washer/dryer. But for the most part it is finished. Below is a couple before and after pictures. I don't have a "complete" after picture, but a couple of different angles so you can get the idea.

Before left side:

Before right side:

Before - galley kitchen shot:

As you can see, very basic, but my cabinets were in good shape, so we opted not to replace them (actually to save money - plus I kinda like them!)

We did:

replace all hardware (something from Lowe's)

replace all stainless appliances:

*Maytag Ice2O frig (cabinet depth)

*Frigidaire Duel Fuel Range (30")

*Frigidaire Dishwasher

*GE Front Loader Wash/Dry w/pedestals (white)

replace flooring - 12x12 tile Happy Floors - Ocra (the color) with 2x2 aged iron floral dot inserts (grout summer wheat)

replace counter top - Verde Butterfly granite

new backsplash - Caribe Golden Sienna premium tumbled travertine 6x6 with 2x2 aged iron floral dot inserts (grout sahara tan)

replace sink with stainless double bowl - one side 10" deep, other 8" deep

new faucet - Delta Saxoney Pull-out

paint - Porter Paint - Greige

lighting from Lowe's - replaced main kitchen light - new pendent over sink and wonderful under cabinet lighting

After pictures:

New hardwoods had just been installed, showing the transition between floors:

I love my sink and faucet, probably one of my favorite things in the kitchen!

As you can tell in some of these pictures there is no backsplash. It was the last thing installed and it went in the week before Christmas.

We did some of the work ourselves, but for the most part we used friends (tile work) and of course granite installers. I didn't use a KD, so it seemed to very stressful to be making a lot decisions worring about things matching/working together. We didn't really have a firm budget, but at the same time we did the kitchen we replaced out common area flooring with hardwood, bought new living room furniture and concreted our back yard with 40 yrds of concrete. So we had a lot going on in a short 3 month period.

Thanks for all the feedback, ideas and advice .... this forum is GREAT!!!

Thanks for looking at my new kitchen. I'm working on a slideshow and should have better pictures by tomorrow!

I'll try to link the whole photobucket account if you want to look more closely as some areas of the kitchen

Very nice transformation! Love your granite with your cab color!

To answer your cleaning question, I use SCI (Stone Care International) Clean Encounters spray with a microfiber cloth. Sometimes I'll just use a hot, wet micro fiber, but it's just as easy to spritz with the cleaner and wipe. Some BB&B's carry the SCI spray which means you can get it using a 20% coupon to buy it!

Thanks everyone. DH actually picked the granite but only with the promise of under cabinet lighting, which I LOVE. He worked really hard getting it wired just the way I wanted it. I can't really take all the credit for the tile choices. I took a piece of the granite, a cabinet door and an idea to DalTile in town and the lady who works the showroom, along with a interior decorator who happend in helped a lot. I knew I wanted to down play the green coloring in the verde butterfly and up play the golds in it so she help pick that, but she thought we should use a long accent piece. We picked the flooring based on something netural, but would go well with the cabinets and not compete with the granite. We decided on the floral dots to help bring a bit of dark to the floor. As the process went a long, the accent piece for the backsplash got changed because of budgeting. It was about $20.00 per 5x12 piece ... a little too much for me. The dots were a little cheaper and helped coordinate the floor and backsplash a little more.

The whole process was fun in a stressful sort of way. The part I stressed about the most was picking the granite, since it's such a focus point and I knew we would be living with it for a long time. DH walked in the granite warehouse and narrowed it down within 30 min. The Verde Butterfly and a Uba Tuba. I really wanted something that wasn't used a lot, but they just happen to look best with the cabinets and DH didn't want a lot of movement, so Verde Butterfly was the perfect compromise.

I will miss this process thats been a huge part of my life for the past 3 1/2 months. While doing this kitchen remodel, we decided to update our hall bathroom also and paint our master bedroom. Next is to finish our partial finished basement and eventually work on our master bath, which may entail tearing out a bath/shower insert and replacing with just a tiled shower ..... not sure about that whole job yet! I guess it's time to move on to other forums!! (nahhh, not yet - :)!)

Very nice job! BTW, I use Method granite cleaner from Target. It comes in wipes or a spray bottle. I use the spray.
